DIANE SALAMON, ARTIST
Diane Salamon is a nationally recognized artist whose work is included in many collections including the Official State Art Collection of Oklahoma. She has exhibited extensively throughout the United States in many juried and invitational exhibits and is included in the registry of the National Museum of Women in the Arts. She has been awarded signature status in the Oklahoma Watercolor Society and the Southwest Watercolor Society. Ms. Salamon is frequently interviewed about issues concerning art and requested to jury exhibits.
Diane’s recent works deal with new directions and possibilities in life. The underlying structure of each painting has a musical quality that causes the viewer to either drift or dance through the painting.
Before painting Diane either writes about what she would like the painting to convey or plays the piano. Often she will do both which opens up her creativity. Color is very important in her work, and she generally selects a warm color palette. Cool blues and greens do appear occasionally, but even then the necessity for warmth usually prevails. Diane enjoys working in acrylic, which is a versatile medium requiring quick thinking. Her work often looks chaotic and unorganized when she begins, but as she adds and subtracts layers a calm but active presence emerges.
Because of the various layers, messages and symbols utilized in the paintings, a single viewing of the work rarely occurs. Diane’s paintings are a visual journey with musical undertones, and each viewing will reveal something not seen before.
